New Hanover County announces a new Museum Director for Cape Fear Museum

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – Sheryl Kingery Mays will begin as Museum Director for Cape Fear Museum on Tuesday, November 4th. Currently residing in Williamsburg, Virginia, Ms. Mays possesses a Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Museum Studies and brings to New Hanover County 25 years of experience as a museum professional. Her recent experience includes almost 4 years as director of public programs and operations at Historic Jamestowne for Preservation Virginia (Jamestown, VA); over 2 years as curator of education for Henrico County’s Preservation and Museum Services Division (Henrico, VA); and 9 years as director of education for Children’s Museum of Maine (Portland, ME). Her education, experience, and commitment to public service will allow Ms. Mays to carry out the mission of Cape Fear Museum through its programs and exhibits. During her acceptance of the position, Ms. Mays stated, “I look forward to the opportunity to serve the public in this capacity and lead Cape Fear Museum in a direction that is responsive to its diverse community and supports the county’s strategic initiatives.”
