Fresh Faces at Cape Fear Museum

Wilmington, N.C. – New Hanover County’s Cape Fear Museum is excited to welcome two new staff. Heather Yenco joined the collection team as its new registrar in September 2015 and Jessica Sisco began in October 2015 as its new administrative specialist.

Heather Yenco is responsible for the policies and procedures in caring for the museum’s collection, ensuring the proper storage, handling and display of artifacts. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history with a minor in arts management from the College of Charleston in 2007 and a master in museum studies from the University of Toronto in 2009. Yenco comes to Cape Fear Museum after five years as the curator of collection and exhibitions at Upcountry History Museum in Greenville, S.C. About her new position at Cape Fear Museum, Yenco says, “I am most excited about being part of a great multi-faceted team that works together to preserve and interpret the history of the Lower Cape Fear.” Museum Curator Barbara Rowe says about Yenco’s arrival, “We are delighted to have Heather on board as part of the Collections team. She brings an excellent combination of academic museum training and prior work experience.”

As the administrative specialist, Jessica Sisco provides support functions for the Museum, including payroll, billing and managing the Visitor Services department. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina Update in 2008. Her prior experience includes working for a tech distributor in Greenville, South Carolina for the Microsoft division and seven years in the banking industry in South Carolina. Sisco says about her arrival, “I love history, learning new things and being involved in the community. I feel like Cape Fear Museum encompasses all of my loves into one career!”

Sheryl Mays, Museum director, said about the new hires, “We’re excited to have Heather and Jessica join the staff at Cape Fear Museum. They are already bringing fresh perspectives and exciting new possibilities that will benefit county residents and the Museum into the future.”
