The New Hanover County Emergency Operations Center remains in a limited activation as local officials closely monitor this event with community, state and federal partners. At this time, officials do not anticipate opening emergency shelters.
A Flood Watch remains in effect until Sunday, Oct. 4 at 9 p.m.
Although minimal impacts are expected from Hurricane Joaquin, travel is strongly discouraged due to the excessive amount of rainfall that has been forecast. Rainfall amounts of 4 to 7 inches can be expected with up to 10 inches in isolated areas.
Property owners should ensure drainage ditches are clear to help prevent flooding problems. Residents and visitors are encouraged review their personal preparedness plans and remain alert in case evacuation becomes necessary.
Preparation information can be found online at ReadyNC.org, or by downloading the ReadyNC mobile application. The ReadyNC app is free and available now in the Apple AppStore and Google Play for Android devices.
