NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County Manager Chris Coudriet announced today that Nicholas Gadzekpo has been selected as the county’s next inspections director. He will begin in this role on October 25, 2016.
Gadzekpo has more than 30 years of public and private sector experience with building code compliance work. He has worked with local governments in Texas, Georgia, Virginia, and Illinois. Most recently, Gadzekpo served as a building codes and standards consultant for a firm that provides legal research, training, and education to property and casualty professionals of the insurance industry nationwide.
“Nicholas is a code expert and a systems thinker,” said Coudriet. “He has a track record of building relationships and improving business processes, and he will ensure New Hanover County is helping our community understand and comply with the building code – not just enforcing it.”
Gadzekpo’s appointment comes as the county reorganizes the Planning and Inspections Department to better serve citizens. Upon Gadzekpo’s arrival, the department will be separated into two stand-alone departments with distinct functions, and Chris O’Keefe will remain as the director for the Planning and Zoning Department. This restructuring will improve the customer experience and enhance development and business services for those doing business in the county.
In accepting the position, Gadzekpo said “I look forward to developing innovative solutions, consistent with the county’s practices and business principles, to best serve the citizens and development community in New Hanover County.”
Gadzekpo holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington and numerous professional certifications.
