NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County government will mark the start of the 2014 hurricane season by hosting a countywide preparedness exercise on Tuesday, June 3.
Various emergency response agencies and community organizations will participate in a day long exercise on Tuesday at the County’s Emergency Operations Center in Wilmington. Officials will be tracking a simulated Category 2 hurricane named Grace.
“The objective of the exercise is to review and finalize our preparations for the hurricane season, ensure our readiness and response capabilities needed to save lives and protect the public and their property,” said Warren Lee, director of New Hanover County Emergency Management and 911.
The exercise will also include the activation of the County’s Joint Information Center (JIC). The JIC has become standard procedure for coordinating public information when multiple agencies are involved.
