New Hanover County to hold paint collection event

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County’s Environmental Management Department will be holding a paint collection event for county residents on Friday, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Paint (latex and oil-based) and paint-related materials (thinners, stains, and primer) generated from residential properties will be collected at Sherwin-Williams, located at 7336 Market Street. The collection point will be in the parking area behind Sherwin-Williams, in the lot adjacent to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore. Collected materials will be taken to the County’s Household Hazardous Waste facility for processing.

Unwanted paint, thinners, and stains may contain combustible or toxic chemicals. When stored or disposed of improperly, these chemicals can leach into and contaminate groundwater or pose a fire risk. For more information, please call the Department of Environmental Management at (910) 798-4400.
