NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – Who’s the best story reader of them all?  Scooter Hayes, Youth Services Librarian at New Hanover County’s Myrtle Grove Library, has entered a national competition and needs your votes!

Children’s author B.J. Novak recently challenged teachers, librarians, and parents to have someone film them reading Novak’s The Book with No Pictures aloud to kids.  Since the book literally has no pictures, its appeal to young children depends on the silliness of the words and the enthusiasm and creativity of the reader.  As local kids know, no one is more creative or enthusiastic than Mr. Scooter!

All the films of readers bringing The Book with No Pictures to life are online, and Mr. Scooter’s performance opens at this link:  The winner of the contest will be the one who gets the most votes from viewers.

The prize for very best reader of The Book with No Pictures is $5,000 and a visit from children’s author B.J. Novak.  Please vote for Mr. Scooter so author B.J. Novak can visit and read to New Hanover County kids in person, and so the New Hanover County Library can offer even more free events for kids! The national competition for best reader is open through Feb. 28.
