(New Hanover County)—The New Hanover County Department of Planning & Inspections will host a public open house on Wednesday, October 28th from 5 – 7 PM in the Development Services Atrium area at the New Hanover County Government Center.
The open house is an opportunity for citizens and stakeholders to review and discuss plans for the future development of the County.
The comprehensive long range plan, called Plan NHC is the result of two years of collaboration with citizens. The New Hanover County Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Future Land Use maps will be available for review at the open house.
The Future Land Use Map will replace the 2006 CAMA Land Classification Map and reflects the vision established by citizens and community leaders in the early phases of developing the comprehensive plan. The map will be used as a guide for future development decisions such as rezoning, special use permits, and variance requests.
One new feature of the Future Land Use Map is development of “Place Types” which represent development patterns that are different from the 2006 CAMA Land Classification Map currently in use. The biggest change is the incorporation of Mixed Use land use classifications. These classification combine retail, residential, commercial and office uses, to create a more sustainable New Hanover County.
