NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – In December 2015, New Hanover County’s Board of Commissioners adopted a resolution authorizing Pender EMS and Fire to provide coverage to the Island Creek area in New Hanover County. This change has now been approved by the Insurance Service Office (ISO) and will take effect on June 1, 2016.
Residents living on or off Sidbury Road, beginning at the New Hanover County line and ending at 7000 Sidbury Road, will be eligible for a new Property Protection Class rating of 4/9E. For the majority of Island Creek residents, this rating improvement should have a positive impact on insurance premiums.
“This change has been possible through New Hanover County Fire Rescue’s partnership with Pender EMS and Fire, along with the approvals of the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners and the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal,” said Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal Frank Meyer. “New Hanover County is committed to be an innovative leader in fire and emergency services, while providing the best possible value to the community.”
The class 4 rating applies to all properties with a required fire flow of 3,500 gallons per minute or less and within five miles of Pender EMS & Fire Station 18, located at 11331 Hwy. 17 in Scotts Hill. Properties that require larger fire flows are individually evaluated and may vary from the listed rating for private and public fire protection.
Residents in the affected Island Creek area have been notified, with both hand-delivered and mailed letters, regarding the change in fire districts. Residents have been encouraged to contact their insurance carriers to provide them with the updated information.
