Mr. Tarte served a nine-year term as Public Health Director for Union County, NC, the eighth most populous county in North Carolina, and he brings over 21 years of experience working with local and state health programs.

“Having interviewed extremely qualified candidates from our applicant pool, I am excited that the New Hanover County Board of Health made a unanimous decision to hire Mr. Tarte,” said Board Chair Dr. Kim Thrasher Horne. Originally from Columbus County, NC, Mr. Tarte received his Bachelor’s degree from UNC-Charlotte before obtaining a Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill.

In his role, Mr. Tarte will positively impact our citizens while demonstrating the county’s shared values of professionalism, integrity, innovation, stewardship, and accountability.”
