New Hanover County, NC – New Hanover County’s Senior Resource Center will host a Senior Resource Fair on Wednesday, June 29 from 9:30 a.m.-noon in coordination with Congressman David Rouzer. The fair will provide seniors with valuable resources and help answer questions about benefits, Social Security, legal matters, protection from fraud, healthcare needs and more.
“Our hope is to empower seniors to be self-advocates by educating them on the resources and contacts available to them,” said Amber Smith, Senior Resource Center Director. “It is essential for seniors to understand the importance of voicing their concerns, asking questions, and being persistent to get answers.”
Featured speakers at the Senior Resource Fair are Congressman David Rouzer, U.S Representative for North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District, and Elizabeth “Betty” Grace, Senior Tar Heel Legislator. In addition, staff from the Social Security Administration, NC Department of Insurance – Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), NC Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and New Hanover County’s Department of Social Services, Health Department and Veterans Services will present important information for seniors.
Seniors, caregivers, adult children, and the general public are welcome to attend. Seating is limited and the doors open at 9:15 a.m. The fair will be held at the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center, located at 2222 South College Road next to Hoggard High School.
“We encourage all seniors not to miss this opportunity to voice your concerns, have your questions answered and receive valuable information from these professionals,” said Smith. “Advocacy is important, but self-advocacy is imperative.”
