Ten County Programs Receive National Recognition
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – Ten innovative programs in New Hanover County were recognized this week by the National Association of Counties (NACo) through the Achievement Awards Program. The awards program recognizes innovative county government programs based on individual merit, in order to highlight successes and share best practices with counties across the nation.
Thirteen applications were submitted for consideration from New Hanover County and ten of them won NACo Achievement Awards. “This is a testament to the creativity, innovative spirit, and unwavering focus to improving the lives and experiences of our citizens,” said County Manager Chris Coudriet.

- Investment in Youth Job Skills Development Pays Real Dividends is a Community Justice Services program, recognized in the category of Criminal Justice and Public Safety.
- Business Not as Usual for Civil Defendants in Pretrial Release Services Program is a Community Justice Services program, recognized in the category of County Administration Management.
- Family Support Program’s Fatherhood Initiative is a Department of Social Services program, recognized in the category of Human Services.
- Story Stations is a Public Library project, recognized in the category of Libraries.
- Implementing Agile Project Management Methodologies for Improved Focus is an Information Technology Department program, recognized in the category of Information Technology.
- Smoke Alarm and Fire Prevention Program Helping the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a Fire Rescue program, recognized in the category of Criminal Justice and Public Safety.
- Maintaining Carolina Beach Inlet is an Engineering project, recognized in the category of County Resiliency: Infrastructure, Energy & Sustainability.
- Task-Oriented Cross Training is a Planning and Inspections Department program, recognized in the category of Personnel Management, Employee Training & Benefits.
- Community Battery Recycling is an Environmental Management program, recognized in the category of County Resiliency: Infrastructure, Energy & Sustainability.
- Intensive Reunification Foster Care Program is a Department of Social Services program, recognized in the category of Human Services.
