NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – At their September 6, 2016 meeting, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners approved the naming of the New Hanover County Public Library Pine Valley Branch. This new library, scheduled to open in early 2019, will replace the existing Myrtle Grove Library and offer greatly expanded space for learning resources, library programs and services, community meetings and parking.

“The Myrtle Grove Library has seen an impressive increase in its patrons over the years, from a library service population of 43,000 residents in 1992 to a population of 73,000 in 2014,” said Library Director Harry Tuchmayer. “As our population continues to grow, the Pine Valley Branch will ensure that the library system can serve the southern part of our county effectively – well into the future.”

The Pine Valley Branch will be located at 3802 South College Road, and construction is expected to begin in fiscal year 2017-2018. Vines Architecture will design the new building to optimize its use of space, and county staff will ensure the branch has the latest advances in library practices and technologies.

Opportunities will be provided for public input during the initial planning phase of the project.
