NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County Parks & Gardens recently completed the new splash pad at Hugh MacRae Park. The 2,700 square foot wet play area will officially open to the public in April 2017 and will remain open through October 31.

“The splash pad is the final piece of New Hanover County’s all-inclusive playground project funded by Trillium Health Resources’ Play Together Grant,” said Parks & Gardens Director Tara Duckworth. “The goal of the project is to provide facilities that will allow all participants, regardless of their ability level, to play together without the usual barriers those utilizing mobility devices experience.”

The splash pad will be open seasonally, and a “Big Splash” grand opening ceremony will be held in April.

Parks & Gardens has several additional amenities that were completed this fall, including a Gaga Ball pit at Arrowhead Park, a full-size basketball court at Northern Regional Park, and a one-mile walking trail and exercise station at Ogden Park. These additions further the county’s strategic efforts to reduce obesity through active-living environments.
