New Hanover County, NC – At today’s New Hanover County Board of Commissioners meeting, the county’s Strategy and Budget Department was recognized for receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for fiscal year beginning July 1, 2016.

In order to receive this award, a government unit must publish a budget document that meets program criteria in the following four categories: as a policy document, as a financial plan, as an operations guide, and as a communications device. The county’s budget document also received Special Performance Measures Recognition.

“New Hanover County is among the top counties in the nation for quality government budgeting, having received this prestigious award for 26 years in a row,” said New Hanover County Manager Chris Coudriet. “That is a testament to the commitment of our Commissioners and staff to effectively govern the county and successfully serve our citizens.”

This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement for New Hanover County.
