NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – On Tuesday, April 4, New Hanover County Parks & Gardens and The Parks Conservancy of New Hanover County will be partnering with The Cape Fear Garden Club, Inc. Civic Improvements Committee for an official planting of azaleas to kick off the 2017 Plant an Azalea Week. In addition, more than 400 local Realtors® will be volunteering to beautify ten New Hanover County Parks.

The official planting of azaleas will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Hugh MacRae Park near the gazebo. Cape Fear Garden Tour Azalea Belles, county officials, and members of the Cape Fear Garden Club will be present. The public is invited to attend.

“Plant an Azalea Week is held each year in April to promote the planting of azaleas throughout our community,” said Janine Powell, Parks & Gardens Director of Donor Relations. “They add so much beauty to our area and this is a way that we can help New Hanover County and Wilmington return to a ‘city of a million azaleas’.”

Realtors® will also be donating their time on Tuesday to spruce up New Hanover County’s parks, as part of the Cape Fear REALTORS® – REALTOR® Action Day, an initiative designed for local Realtors® to give back to the community.
