NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County Department of Social Services (DSS) announced today that there is no waiting list for childcare vouchers for New Hanover County citizens who qualify.
“We are focused on access to care for children and families, and have worked very hard on working through the childcare voucher waitlist that existed previously,” said DSS Assistant Director for Economic Services Janice Cannon. “Currently, people who come in to apply with the required documentation and are eligible can receive same-day approval.”
The New Hanover County DSS Child Care Program is funded by the state and provides access to affordable childcare, supporting the independence of families by enabling parents to secure and maintain employment or enrollment in education programs, and meet the basic needs of their children.
Eligibility requirements include New Hanover County residency, United States citizenship, age of the child or children, reason for care (employment and/or education) and income.
County residents can apply in person at New Hanover County DSS at 1650 Greenfield Street, Wilmington, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 6 p.m. on Wednesdays.
