NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County Parks & Gardens will hold a grand opening for the county’s Ogden Skate Park on Sunday, April 23 at 2 p.m. The skate park has been open to skaters and bikers since February 25, but a formal ribbon cutting and opening ceremony will be held on Sunday during the Food Truck Rodeo at Ogden Park.
“The skate park was a true community effort,” said Parks and Gardens Director Tara Duckworth. “From the beginning, skaters, bikers, and the public were involved in the design process and were also instrumental in fundraising. We were able to leverage the county’s investment in the project and raise private and in-kind donations to make this skate park a reality for our community.”
New Hanover County worked with Seattle-based Grindline Skateparks to design and construct the 10,000 square-foot concrete skate park that includes a bowl, streets, transitions, and vertical features, appealing to both skaters and BMXers. The Tony Hawk Foundation has also been involved, providing a grant for the construction and helping to design the park’s bowl.
The Ogden Skate Park has already become a local and regional attraction, and is visited by more than 50 youth each day. It is open daily from 8 a.m. until sunset. For more information about the park, visit parks.nhcgov.com.
