NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – On Thursday, October 19, approximately 6-11 p.m., New Hanover County will hold a large-scale simulation and active shooter exercise at the Government Center, located at 230 Government Center Drive.

There will be numerous emergency vehicles and personnel involved in the drill; however, the public should not be alarmed with the activity around the Government Center that evening. Nearby businesses have been informed, and will continue business as usual during the drill.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Fire Rescue, Emergency Management, Wilmington Police Department, New Hanover Regional EMS, and several other partners will be participating in the exercise.

Planning for this large-scale exercise began more than a year ago. It will test law enforcement and emergency agency responses, and help inform facility-specific and county-agency action plans. A county-wide policy and plan is in place to respond to active-shooter incidents to ensure that county employees are prepared should an unlikely incident of violence occur.
