NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – For residents who are not able to travel to the inland shelter, an additional shelter will open at 6 p.m. at MCS Noble Middle School, located at 6520 Market St. in Wilmington. Power can not be guaranteed at this shelter after power outages, and residents must bring their own bedding as no cots or blankets are available. Noble Middle School is not a pet co-location. This shelter should be considered the last option for those who are not able to leave the area.

Residents are strongly encouraged to seek shelter inland at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum, located at 2825 University Parkway in Winston-Salem, NC. This shelter will open at 6 p.m. The final buses departing from New Hanover County to this inland shelter will leave at 6 p.m. today.

Those seeking emergency shelter in or out of county should bring their own bedding, including blankets and pillows, prescription medications and other necessary items. No alcohol, illegal drugs or weapons are permitted.
