New Hanover County, N.C. – The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Unit is open and any animal dropped off prior to Hurricane Florence may be picked up at the facility located at 180 Division Drive, Wilmington, N.C., 28401. Current hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. including weekends. Pets belonging to people who evacuated for Hurricane Florence will remain safe at Animal Services until owners can travel safely back to the area. Stray animals found in New Hanover County may also be brought to the Animal Services unit. Additionally, the New Hanover County Building Safety Department will open a satellite office in Carolina Beach on Monday, September 24, 2018 to provide permitting and inspection services for storm related issues including electrical, mechanical/HVAC and plumbing. Permit fees will be waived for all storm related damages. This satellite office is available to serve Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and southern parts of the county.
The Building Safety satellite office will be open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. until further notice at the Town Hall of Carolina Beach, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd., Carolina Beach.
