NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – County offices will remain closed for business through Friday, September 21, because county staff are currently reassigned to emergency recovery duties. We hope to resume all county business operations on Monday, September 24.
Beginning Wednesday, September 19, emergency repair permits will be issued by the county. Emergency permit applications, which can be viewed here, should be emailed to the Building Safety Department or obtained at the NHC Government Center’s Development Services Center between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Emergency residential building repairs on a single family residence do not require a permit if the cost is $15,000 or less. However, a permit for electrical, mechanical and/or plumbing work will be required, per the North Carolina Building Code. These trade permits will be given by the county at no cost for emergency damage repairs through November 30.
The county landfill is open with normal operating hours. The HazWagon will not be operational until Monday, September 24.
