Superheroes Join Forces at Cape Fear Museum during ‘Superhero Science Family Night,’ sponsored by Piedmont Natural Gas

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. – Cape Fear Museum is inviting the community to Superhero Science Family Night, an educational evening of family fun on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by a grant from Piedmont Natural Gas, some of the event stations and activities at this FREE superhero science event will include:

  • Super inventor skills
  • Test superhero senses
  • Discover movie magic to take superhero selfies
  • Face painting
  • Make a superhero cape
  • Krypto-slime
  • Levitation illusion
  • Glowing purple plant potion
  • Can crush demonstration
  • Creatures from NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher and the Cape Fear Raptor Center

Each activity is designed to encourage families to work together, spark curiosity and build enthusiasm for learning while introducing topics related to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Museum Director Sheryl Kingery Mays said, “Thank you to Piedmont Natural Gas for their generosity to sponsor a family fun night that will help us better serve county residents, especially those living in our surrounding neighborhoods. We recognize the need for quality family programming that is both fun and educational.”

Superhero costumes are strongly encouraged and children must be accompanied by an adult. Poor Piggy’s food truck and Trolly Stop cart will be on-site and food will be available for purchase.

“Piedmont Natural Gas is proud to promote STEM education as part of our commitment to building and strengthening the communities we serve,” said Tammy Thurman, community relations manager for Piedmont Natural Gas. “This event is a great way to get students excited about learning, and we hope everyone comes out to enjoy the fun.”

Cape Fear Museum of History and Science, 814 Market Street, is open Tuesday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. General admission will be FREE until further notice. Standard admission prices are $8 for adults; $7 for seniors, students and military with valid ID; $5 for children 6-17; and free for children 5 and under and for museum members.
