New Hanover County, NC – New Hanover County Fire Rescue (NHCFR), in conjunction with Cape Fear Community College, will conduct a live fire training at 6724 Carolina Beach Road, on Monday, December 17, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“This training is an opportunity for our staff to gain valuable knowledge and practical experience, while operating in a safe environment that closely resembles real fire situations,” said NHCFR Chief Donnie Hall. “Firefighters will be able to observe fire behavior in all stages of fire growth, move and direct fire hose streams to attack a fire, and practice water supply operations. This will also give fire officers the opportunity for fire ground management training and allow them to complete safety officer skills for certification.”
Residents and businesses in the immediate area are being notified of the training and the potential of smoke in the area. Message boards have also been placed on Carolina Beach Road to alert passing traffic.
The training will begin at 9:30 with a safety briefing, and then the structure will be burned down by 5 p.m.
The media can take footage of the training, but must be escorted by the Incident Commander on the property in order to ensure safety. Please ask for the Incident Commander upon arrival to the site to receive access to the area and for short interviews.
