New Hanover County, NC – New Hanover County Board of Commissioners Chairman Jonathan Barfield, Jr., was selected as the District 4 Director for the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC). He will serve in this leadership role for two years to represent Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender counties.

“My work as a district director will help guide policy decisions and the work of NCACC,” said Chairman Barfield. “I have been able to help shape NCACC’s legislative agenda for this year, keeping the best interest of our county and region at the forefront, and I am grateful to have this opportunity to serve.”

In addition, Commissioner Rob Zapple was selected by the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners to serve as the county’s voting delegate at this year’s NCACC Legislative Goals Conference, which takes place today and Friday in Raleigh.

“I appreciate the opportunity to deliberate and vote on NCACC’s proposed legislative goals and policies on behalf of New Hanover County,” said Zapple. “This is an important process to ensure the right priorities are presented to each member of the General Assembly, the Governor, and other executive leaders on behalf of every county in our state.”

The conference brings leaders from around North Carolina together to discuss why counties’ legislative proposals matter and then agree upon those that impact all 100 counties. Chairman Barfield and Commissioner Zapple are both attending the conference to ensure the legislative goals for the Cape Fear region are prioritized.
