NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – On Monday, April 1, New Hanover County Parks & Gardens and The Parks Conservancy of New Hanover County will be partnering with The Cape Fear Garden Club, Inc. Civic Improvements Committee for an official planting of azaleas to kick off the 2019 Plant an Azalea Week. The event will take place at Airlie Gardens at 10 a.m.

Cape Fear Garden Tour Azalea Belles, county officials, and members of the Cape Fear Garden Club will be present and the public is invited to attend.

This year’s event is being held at Airlie Gardens to support recovery efforts from damage sustained during Hurricane Florence. More than fifty azaleas will be planted to help return Airlie’s azalea collection to pre-Hurricane Florence numbers.

Plant an Azalea Week is held annually during April to promote the planting of azaleas throughout our community to help return New Hanover County and Wilmington to a “city of a million azaleas.” The Parks Conservancy of New Hanover County holds several beautification events throughout the year to enhance New Hanover County Parks.
