NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County recently received the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the Fiscal Year 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This is the thirty-eighth consecutive year that New Hanover County has achieved this prestigious award, which highlights the high accounting principles and strong financial management of the county.
In addition, the county has earned a 2019 Local Government Program Excellence Award from the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) for reducing and maintaining lower rates of juvenile recidivism through the Community Service and Restitution Program from 2013-2018.
This program operates through the county’s Community Justice Services and was recognized in the Community Sustainability category for demonstrating innovation, excellence, and success in balancing the community’s social, economic, environmental, and cultural needs. It was one of only four ICMA Excellence Awards granted worldwide in the community sustainability category.
“I applaud the work of our county staff who have earned these two distinguished awards,” said County Manager Chris Coudriet. “It shows the county’s commitment to being financially strong and transparent, and also the work being done to improve and change the lives of our residents. Our community should be proud of the standard of innovation, effectiveness, and dedication that our employees show each day – which is what earns these top honors and makes us a leader around the world.”
