NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County residents can apply for assistance with heating costs through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program from January 2 to March 31, 2020, or until funds are exhausted. The program provides a one-time annual vendor payment to help eligible families pay their heating expenses.
The New Hanover County Department of Social Services administers the program locally, and applications must be done in person at the Health and Human Services building located at 1650 Greenfield Street. Heating bill and proof of all household income are needed to determine eligibility.
“The Low Income Energy Assistance Program helps residents stay safe and warm through the winter months, and we have additional staff on hand to help those who need it,” said New Hanover County Assistant Director of Social Services Tonya Jackson. “Eligibility criteria is different than other economic assistance programs, so we encourage anyone who is having difficulty paying their bill to come in and apply.”
