NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County Board of Commissioners Chair Julia Olson-Boseman has lifted the curfew for the unincorporated areas of the county effective today, June 8. The curfew was originally implemented on June 2 through a State of Emergency and prohibited gathering in groups of 10 or more between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. in unincorporated areas.

“The curfew on gatherings was in place to coordinate with the city and help ensure a safe environment for our community to protest, and – after consulting with the Sheriff – I don’t feel like it is needed any longer in the unincorporated county,” said Chair Olson-Boseman. “I appreciate everyone in our community who has abided by the curfew over the past week, while continuing peaceful and meaningful protests calling for much-needed change.”

Peaceful protests and demonstrations are supported by the county, and protesters are encouraged to take public health precautions and safety considerations to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
