NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – This week, Atrium Health, Duke Health and Novant Health gave public presentations to the Partnership Advisory Group (PAG) about their interest and ability to partner with New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NHRMC) to advance healthcare in the region. Each presentation was streamed live on NHCTV and the recordings can be viewed at NHRMCfuture.org.
The PAG is a citizen-led group that has been evaluating options for New Hanover Regional Medical Center since last October. In recent weeks, they have been conducting virtual and in-person site visits with all three organizations to learn more about each health system, their efforts to improve their community’s overall health, eliminate disparities in care, achieve health equity, and much more.
The PAG co-chairs are scheduled to give an update at the Board of Commissioners’ June 15 meeting regarding their progress. The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. at the Historic Courthouse, located at 24 North Third Street, in Room 301 and the agenda can be viewed here.
Over the coming weeks, the advisory group will continue its evaluation of the proposals and whether a partnership is in the best interest of healthcare and the community. If the group concludes a partnership is in the community’s best interest, the PAG will then recommend its preferred partner to the Board of Commissioners and NHRMC Board of Trustees by mid-July.
The next two PAG meetings will be Thursday, June 18 and Tuesday, July 2, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.:
The meeting on June 18 will be held at UNCW’s Burney Center, located at Price Drive on the UNCW Campus. Free parking will be available at Lot M near the Burney Center. Social distancing guidelines will be observed and attendees will be required to wear face coverings. The meetings will be open to the public, except for the closed session portion of the meetings.
The public can also listen to the open session portions of these meetings (which are expected to occur at the beginning and end of the meetings) virtually using this public zoom link.
The meeting on July 2 will be held at the county’s Government Center, located at 230 Government Center Drive, in the Andre Mallete Training Room. The meeting is open to the public, but will be limited in capacity due to social distancing guidelines and attendees will be required to wear face coverings.
The public can watch the meeting virtually on NHCTV.com and on NHCTV’s cable stations: Spectrum channel 13 and Charter channel 5 (please note: NHCTV’s cable stations can only be viewed within New Hanover County, but NHCTV.com can be accessed by anyone on a smartphone, tablet or computer).
A recording of the open sessions will also be available after each meeting at NHRMCfuture.org.
In addition, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on Monday, June 22 at 5 p.m. to discuss all six proposals received to partner with NHRMC. The public hearing will be held at the New Hanover County Historic Courthouse, located at 24 North Third Street, in Room 301. View additional details, including in-person and virtual options to watch and share comments, here.
The public can view all six proposals, executive summaries, and answers to follow-up questions online at NHRMCfuture.org, along with presentations, minutes and recordings from the Advisory Group’s meetings.
