NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – New Hanover County, for the 29th consecutive year, has been granted the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the fiscal year that began July 1, 2019 and concluded June 30, 2020.
“I want to thank our finance and budget staff for their work in managing the county’s $399 million balanced budget this past fiscal year, and their continuous work to ensure our programs and services are well funded and aligned with the Commissioners’ strategic plan and priorities,” said County Manager Chris Coudriet. “This award is a significant achievement, and to have received it for 29 consecutive years is a testament to the county’s continued commitment to a thorough and transparent budget process, with a detailed budget book that shows how tax dollars are being utilized in every aspect of county operations.”
In order to receive this distinction, a government unit must publish a budget document that meets program criteria in the following four categories: as a policy document, as a financial plan, as an operations guide, and as a communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the award.
