NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – The New Hanover County Board of Elections has unanimously approved a One-Stop Voting Implementation Plan for the 2020 General Election consisting of six early voting sites. The One-Stop (also known as “early voting”) voting period begins on Thursday, October 15 and ends on Saturday, October 31. All sites will have weekday hours (Monday-Friday) from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. In addition, the One-Stop sites will have weekend hours of noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, Sunday, October 18, Saturday, October 24 and Sunday, October 25. The final day of One-Stop voting, Saturday, October 31 all sites will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The One-Stop sites in New Hanover County are:
Early voting allows registered voters to cast an absentee ballot in person prior to Election Day at any One-Stop location, versus voting at their specific precinct on Election Day. Residents who are not registered in New Hanover County may also register to vote during the One-Stop early voting period at any of the six locations. Curbside voting will be available at all One-Stop sites for anyone unable to enter the voting location due to age, physical disability, and physical barriers encountered at the voting place.
“If you prefer to vote in-person, we encourage you to vote early during our One-Stop voting period in October, because it will help prevent long lines and crowded polls on election day,” said Board of Elections Chair Thomas Pollard. “The process for this election, including the sanitation and social distancing protocols, will be different than ever before. So the more people we can get to vote early at a One-Stop site or through absentee by-mail, the better. We want to ensure everyone is safe throughout election season, and we also want everyone to be able to vote. So we are balancing those two priorities and will be working over the coming months to further refine our plans.”
The New Hanover County Board of Elections is currently reviewing every aspect of the elections process to determine what changes will be made to ensure safe, accessible and secure voting for all voters in New Hanover County during COVID-19.
There are three voting options for voters to cast a ballot: absentee by-mail, in-person early voting, and Election Day voting. View details on each of these voting methods at NHCvote.com.
