NEW HANOVER COUNTY – New Hanover County Parks & Gardens and The Parks Conservancy of New Hanover County are proud to partner with The Cape Fear Garden Club, Inc. Civic Improvements Committee for an official planting of beautiful azaleas to kick off the 2021 Plant an Azalea Week, on Thursday, April 1 at 10 a.m. at Airlie Gardens.

County officials, Airlie Gardens Foundation Board members, Airlie Gardens volunteers, and members of the Cape Fear Garden Club will be present and the public is invited to attend.

This year’s event is being held at Airlie Gardens to support continued recovery efforts from damage sustained during hurricanes over the past three years. More than 70 azaleas will be planted to help sustain Airlie’s azalea collection.

Plant an Azalea Week is held annually during April to promote planting of azaleas throughout our community to help return New Hanover County and Wilmington to a “city of a million azaleas”. The Parks Conservancy of New Hanover County holds several beautification events throughout the year to enhance New Hanover County Parks.
